Occupy No. 1 Cemetery

Rapides Parish, Louisiana

The Occupy No. 1 Cemetery is located southwest of Alexandria in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. To find this cemetery from Alexandria, take US Highway 165 south to Glenmora. Turn right on LA Highway 113, and drive west about 15 miles. You will see a sign on the road on the left for Occupy No. 1 Church. Turn left down this road and you will see the cemetery next to the church.

On March 25, 2004 Howard Baulch visited this cemetery and took photos of a few tombstones. Howard's third-great-grandparents, Zedekiah R. Gibson and Sarah Hight, are buried here. The transcriptions and grave markers are presented below. Comments in parentheses are not on the tombstones and are additional information offered by the author.

* The death date on Zedekiah Gibson was fabricated by his family. He did not die in 1869. Indeed, he married a second (younger) woman on Dec 22, 1869. This second wife probated his will in August 1873.
