Wedgeworth Cemetery

Saucier, Harrison County, Mississippi

The Wedgeworth Cemetery is located in Saucier, Harrison County, Mississippi. To find this cemetery from Highway 49 in Saucier, take Second Street west for about one-third mile until it ends. Turn left on Old Highway 49 and go about one-half mile. Turn right on Saucier Lizana Road and drive about two miles until you see the Wedgeworth Cemetery on your right.

On June 26, 2004 Howard Baulch visited this cemetery and took photos of selected tombstones. Howard's third great-grandparents, Josiah T. Terrell and Lucena Swilley, are the grandparents and great-grandparents (through their daughter, Minerva Ladner Terrell) of the Wedgeworths buried here. Additionally, Rudolph Vernon Wedgeworth (buried here) is the son of Emma Ellen Gibson, Howard's grandaunt. The transcriptions and tombstones are presented below. * The birth information offered for Niece Redmond of 1874 or April 1878 is not a typographical error. While 1870 is clearly indicated on her tombstone, other research indicates that it was not her birth year. Here is what I found:

• Her parents, Thomas Redmond and Rebecca Dye, were married March 30, 1871, suggesting a birth year after 1871.
• The 1880 U. S. Census of Harrison County lists her as age 6, suggesting an 1874 birth year.
• The 1900 U. S. Census of Harrison County records her birth as April 1878.
• The 1920 U. S. Census of Harrison County records her age as 50 years, suggesting the 1870 birth year.
• The 1930 U. S. Census of Harrison County records her age as 52 years, suggesting an 1878 birth year.
