• 5/25/2010 - Team members fly from the States to Port-au-Prince airport and are taken to the Methodist Guest House in Pétionville (southeast of Port-au-Prince) for the night.
• 5/26/2010 - After touring the Guest House compound which includes a school and church, the team makes the long and slow drive to Petit-Goâve. Along the way, we visit another VIM team working on a church reconstruction. The devastation we see along the road is heartbreaking.
• 5/27/2010 - We journey about 30 minutes westward to an area called Fond Deux (pronounced "fondue"; spelled Fond Deux, Fond Doux, Fond Dous, Fond Deus). First, we put up tarps to provide us with shade and shelter when it rains. Here we will be working on the footings for the 22 meter by 14 meter foundation of a church reconstruction, holding a health clinic, and keeping the children away from the construction work by offering crafts and games. It is important for the church to be reconstructed first in this community, so that it may be used as a community shelter during tropical storms and hurricanes. We do some digging and move a lot of rock to be used in the footings.
• 5/28/2010 - Today we only get about two hours of work accomplished. We moved rock from the road to the area alongside the west footings and then start on the east side, before it starts to rain heavily. We watch the steady rain for four hours before we head back to Petit-Goâve. We use the opportunity to demonstrate and explain that catching rain water for drinking is safe.
• 5/29/2010 - The rain has stopped, but the humidity is horrendous as the hot sun steams up yesterday's rain. We continue digging for the footings, particularly focusing on digging wider and deeper at each planned column location. The health clinic is also held again today.
• 5/30/2010 - Pastor Maude takes us to Eglise Methodiste D'Olivier, one of seven churches in her circuit. We arrive a few minutes after Sunday School has started. The children's Sunday School teacher has them sing two songs for us, while the young teen, older teen and young adult classes are brought to join us. Paul tells the story of Noah (with Lemaire interpreting), and we do a Noah craft with everyone. Tying in the colors of the rainbow, we then do a faith bracelet craft. Hygiene kits are passed out to the children and young teens, and wooden crosses are passed out to the older teens and young adults. At the worship service, we are treated to a number of passionate hymns and anthems. Matt delivers the sermon with Lemaire interpreting. ... In the afternoon we take a walk around Petit-Goâve to view more of the earthquake's destruction first hand.
• 5/31/2010 - We journey back to the Methodist Guest House in Pétionville for a night's rest before flying home tomorrow.
• 6/1/2010 - Everyone flies back to the States.
